Another Fife resident this time in Kelty has benefited from the help provided by the Community Heating Project. And, once again, RGM Heating Ltd your local, small but growing gas engineers and central heating business in Rosyth Fife swung into action to support the team over at Cosy Kingdom. Help was given to a woman who needed essential boiler repairs at her house in Kelty. The woman was having issues with her boiler and couldn’t afford to have it looked at or fixed. The main problem was that the boiler only worked for a short time before it kept cutting out.
Before the engineer arrived, he would have no idea how dangerous the condition of the boiler had become and unknowingly, how serious an issue this was for the lady.
The Electrodes had corroded and were leaking products of combustion, the burner seal had gone and the silencer had been melted with the heat. These issues caused carbon monoxide to come out of the boiler rather than the flue which can be fatal. Our engineer informed the lady how lucky she was that RGM Heating was called when we were, to turn off her boiler completely and potentially save a tragic incident from occurring if this was left for much longer.
The Dangers of Carbon Monoxide
For the dangers of carbon monoxide, please see CLICK ON THIS LINK.
The best way to avoid the dangers of carbon monoxide s is by having your boiler serviced once a year. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a boiler service. Carbon monoxide detectors should also be installed in the same area as every gas appliance (boiler, cooker, fire) that you may have for safety. RGM Heating like with all our recent jobs for Cosy Kingdom, has helped out completely free of charge.
Unfortunately, what we are finding is that more and more people are needing help and we are unable to help as much as we want or need to. We have plans to change this which will be revealed in the next couple of weeks. We will need everyone’s help with this to share our news so that we can reach as many people as possible. Please keep an eye on our page to find out more, we will be back at the lady’s house in Kelty shortly to get her heating and hot water working again.
The Community Heating Project is a fund where 100% of the money raised, goes towards helping local, vulnerable people with their heating and hot water. That could be fixing their broken boiler, replacing condemned boilers, or even ensuring that their heating is working as efficiently as possible which will result in reducing their carbon footprint and keeping their heating bills down. We will also help with the supply and installation of vital household items such as gas cookers, washing machines, and plumbing essentials including showers, toilets, and sinks.
All labour will be charged out by RGM at an agreed, transparent rate with no profit or markup added to this or any required materials. The fund will be through a Community Interest Company called The Community Heating Project C.I.C which has been set up and will be run by Graeme Robertson. Referrals will come through to RGM directly or from The Cottage Family Centre and we hope to get more charities on board to help with this.
